Clean water changes everything.

Throughout the Pacific, vulnerable families still struggle daily to find safe drinking water. The nearest source can be kilometres away. Imagine carrying gallons of water for hours every day just to survive. Without clean water to drink and wash, diseases like dysentery or life-threatening diarrheoa can quickly set in. And it’s children who suffer first. That’s why access to safe water is our number one priority and where you can help most.

What has been done so far

Our partners on the ground have been able to support children of Gaza on the most limited amount of resources. While aid distribution is available we want to be able to bolster their ability to respond to this heartbreaking crisis.

Our partners have supported over 500,000 people in Gaza since October 2023, through WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), Food Security and Shelter assistance.

How sponsoring a water project works

1

Your gift makes a difference

Every contribution matters. Some supporters choose to fund an entire project component (typically NZ$3,000–15,000), while many others give at a level that’s right for them. Every $1 you donate can be matched up to 5X by the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade.

2

You get clear updates

We’ll share stories, photos, and progress reports from our local partners so you can see your gift at work in the Pacific, Asia, and Africa.

3

You see the results

When the project is complete, you’ll receive a report showing how many people gained safe water, what was built, and how communities are sustaining it.

Every $1 you give is matched with $4 by MFAT, multipling your impact fivefold.

The right solution for each community

No two communities are the same, and neither are their water solutions. That’s why ChildFund works with local partners to carefully consider geography, culture, and need before co-designing the solution.

Solar water distillation units

Solar water distillation units are designed for remote communities where groundwater has become brackish due to rising sea levels and contamination.  Using solar power, the brackish groundwater is pumped into the distillation system, which uses solar power to purify water available for households, schools, and local health clinics. This simple, sustainable technology protects children from waterborne diseases and gives families reliable access to safe water, even in places where traditional wells can no longer be used.

To help a local
kid, you need
local help.

For many children in Kiribati, life is at risk from dirty water, poor sanitation and the lack of nourishing food. But to help her, we need the help of her community. The more we can work with local partners, the more we can ensure children get the clean drinking water and nutrition they need, the schooling they dream of, and the bright futures they deserve.

ChildFund has been working this way since 1938, and we know it works. Our approach builds self-reliance, strengthens communities and empowers change so children throughout the Pacific become the leaders, engineers, teachers and business innovators of tomorrow, shifting dependance off aid and charities.

Our purpose

ChildFund’s purpose is our core reason for being.
Knowing what we want to achieve helps us make the most impact in the communities where we work. We believe that a better future for the Pacific’s children can only be achieved by building stronger communities. To do that we need to understand and remove the barriers that are preventing children and youth from learning and growing. Sometimes those barriers can be life’s basics – like no access to clean water, a shortage of nutritious food, or a lack of education or violence threatens children’s lives. By powering change, by removing barriers we can help transform their futures.

How your donations can help

ImageImage

Wells and tanks

Your donations can help us build a communal well or install storage tanks for rainwater collection. The more we can bring clean water to the community, the more children can grow up healthy and go to school.

ImageImage

Fix and repair

Many remote Pacific communities have old or broken water systems and no money to fix them. Your donations can help us repair the water supply so families can enjoy safe drinking water once more.

ImageImage

Test and treat

Water from wells and rivers still needs to be tested for contamination. With your help we can supply kits and train families how to test their water before it’s too late.

ImageImage

Hands and hygiene

Want to help kids learn proper handwashing? A donation can help fund programs teach life-saving hygiene and sanitation in pre-schools and school In Kiribati.

ImageImage

Roofs and gutters

Rainwater is valuable and free source of fresh water in the Pacific. By installing rainwater collection systems on the roofs of community centres, schools and medical centres, we’re helping communities to gain a more consistent flow of safe water.

ImageImage

Train and maintain

A little knowledge goes a long way. Your donation can help communities become more self-reliant by training them how to maintain their water source and keep it safe for everyone.

Gifts that grow

Gifts that Grow are charity gifts that help children get the nourishment, learning, and support they need to build brighter futures.
