Throughout the Pacific, vulnerable families still struggle daily to find safe drinking water. The nearest source can be kilometres away. Imagine carrying gallons of water for hours every day just to survive. Without clean water to drink and wash, diseases like dysentery or life-threatening diarrheoa can quickly set in. And it’s children who suffer first. That’s why access to safe water is our number one priority and where you can help most.

In Kiribati, mums like Rosie need to boil their water every day for their children. When money is tight, many can’t afford to boil the water. That’s when the children get sick, first with stomach-ache, then with debilitating diarrhea. Rosie tries to save boiled water for her youngest because she knows dirty water is a killer.

Wells and tanks

Your donations can help us build a communal well or install storage tanks for rainwater collection. The more we can bring clean water to the community, the more children can grow up healthy and go to school.

Fix and repair

Many remote Pacific communities have old or broken water systems and no money to fix them. Your donations can help us repair the water supply so families can enjoy safe drinking water once more.

Test and treat

Water from wells and rivers still needs to be tested for contamination. With your help we can supply kits and train families how to test their water before it’s too late.

Hands and hygiene

Want to help kids learn proper handwashing? A donation can help fund programs teach life-saving hygiene and sanitation in pre-schools and school In Kiribati.

Roofs and gutters

Rainwater is valuable and free source of fresh water in the Pacific. By installing rainwater collection systems on the roofs of community centres, schools and medical centres, we’re helping communities to gain a more consistent flow of safe water.

Every child should have access to water that doesn’t make them sick, and without walking for hours to collect it. When communities have access to safe water it has a ripple effect – children don’t get sick, they can attend school and learn life-saving hygiene and sanitation practices.

In parts of the Pacific, child malnutrition is a serious health issue. To address this, ChildFund NZ works with local communities to establish school and community gardens, install solar powered freezers to store surplus crops and support mums with infant feeding programmes.

When children have access to education and skills training, they can become the leaders, teachers, engineers and business innovators of tomorrow to achieve not only their own ambitions, but also to help shift their communities dependance off aid.

All children have a right to grow up in an environment free of violence and exploitation. Through education and support, communities are given tools to keep children safe - and we actively campaign to stop child marriage. We also provide helplines and safe places for families escaping violence.

When disaster strikes, it is children that suffer the most. Through our partners on the ground, we’re able to get food, water, shelter and psychosocial support to children that need it most.
