Child Hunger Appeal

Far from home. With no guarantee of safety.
Meet Dawit - a remarkable child who dreams of being a teacher one day.
In the mid-1980s, famine gripped Ethiopia. In the years since, recurring droughts, food shortages, and conflict have continued to take a heavy toll. Most recently, a two-year civil war in the Tigray region forced millions of families from their homes, destroying schools, livelihoods, and futures.
Nine-year-old Dawit was one of them.
War forced him and his family to leave their home in Humera, and seek refuge at a camp. Like many children in Ethiopia, he often has nothing to eat and goes to school hungry.
Dawit has already been through so much, but instead of focusing on his own problems, he is thinking about how he can help other children.
"I believe education can change lives, and I want to help other children learn just like my teachers help me every day."
If Dawit can't learn, he can't teach.
Please give what you can to support children like Dawit.

FAQ's - Appeals
Yes - you will receive an annual tax receipt at the end of the financial year. If you qualify, you can claim a 33.33% tax credit on a donation of $5 or more.
If the appeal displays the MFAT offering it’s because the specific topic is MFAT Co-Funded. This means that we raise a percentage of funds from the public and MFAT matches it with a particular percentage agreement.
For example, water projects are match funded x5 meaning we need to raise $1 to unlock another $4 from MFAT. So, your gift of $100 becomes $500 with no extra cost to you.
Donations go to the Appeal and the administration of those donations.
Should ChildFund New Zealand receive excess funds for an appeal, we no longer need funding, or the decision is made to close the appeal, your gift will go to our general funds pool.
