Starting from January 13, 2025, you may spot our friendly ChildFund NZ face-to-face fundraisers outside shopping centres, malls, and on the streets. These trained representatives are out in the community to share the inspiring work that ChildFund NZ is doing to remove barriers to learning for children in the Pacific, and beyond.
Face-to-face fundraising gives us a unique opportunity to meet people personally, answer their questions, and share the impact that regular giving has on children’s lives. Through these direct and meaningful connections, we hope to build a stronger community of ChildFund NZ supporters.
Why does ChildFund NZ do face-to-face fundraising?
Face-to-face fundraising is one of the most personal and effective ways for us to share the impact of our work with the community. By meeting people directly, our fundraisers can explain how regular giving helps transform children’s lives in the Pacific and beyond. Face-to-face fundraising allows for open conversations and ensures supporters understand the tangible impact their contributions make.
Are fundraisers paid?
Yes, our fundraisers are paid professionals who are committed to ChildFund NZ’s mission and values. They are compensated fairly, enabling them to share our work passionately and responsibly. By investing in trained and dedicated fundraisers, we ensure they’re well-prepared to represent ChildFund NZ and answer any questions potential supporters may have.
If I sign up as a regular donor, where will my donations go?
Your donations will go towards supporting ChildFund NZ's programs focused on clean water, nutritious food, safety, and education for children in need. A small portion of your contribution is invested in vital fundraising and operational costs to ensure we can continue making a lasting impact. For every $1 that ChildFund NZ invests in fundraising, we estimate a return of $2.55 or more, enabling us to extend crucial support to children, families, and communities in the Pacific and beyond.
How does ChildFund NZ make sure that vulnerable people aren't targeted by fundraisers?
ChildFund NZ is dedicated to upholding respect and integrity in all interactions. We carefully train our fundraisers to engage with everyone respectfully and to always look out for vulnerable individuals, avoiding conversations where support might cause undue hardship. Our team is trained to listen, observe, and act ethically, ensuring that we’re only connecting with those who are willing and able to contribute.
How do I know a fundraiser is legitimate?
We understand that trust is vital. All our fundraisers carry official ChildFund NZ identification and wear branded clothing. They are also accredited and monitored by the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA), ensuring high standards of professionalism and ethics. You can always ask them for proof of their affiliation with us. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact ChildFund NZ directly to confirm their identity or learn more about the specific campaign they’re supporting.
How do I know that my data is secure if given to a fundraiser?
Your privacy and data security are paramount to us. All information provided to our fundraisers is collected through secure, encrypted devices and stored in compliance with New Zealand’s Privacy Act. We ensure that any personal details you share are handled safely and solely for the purpose of your support with ChildFund NZ. See ChildFund NZ's Privacy Policy here.
How does ChildFund ensure the safety and dignity of the children featured in its stories and photos?
ChildFund takes the protection and safeguarding of children very seriously. We have strict policies and procedures in place to ensure that every story, image, and piece of information about children is sourced and shared ethically.
For example:
- We obtain informed consent from children and their guardians before using their photos or stories.
- We avoid sharing any identifying information that could compromise a child's safety.
- All content is reviewed to ensure it portrays children with dignity and respect, emphasizing their strengths and resilience rather than their vulnerabilities.
These measures are part of ChildFund’s comprehensive Child Safeguarding Policy, which outlines how we protect children across all areas of our work.
