Statement from ChildFund CEO Josie Pagani on the passing of Fa'anānā Efeso Collins

This morning, Wednesday 21 February, Green MP Fa'anana Efeso Collins, was taking part in a charity event for ChildFund New Zealand.

Efeso has been a passionate advocate for the Pacific and that’s why he was supporting the ChildFund Water Run this morning.

He was a personal friend of Child Fund CEO Josie Pagani, who was also taking part in the race. He had given his precious time to be part of this event.

Shortly after the end of the race, Efeso suffered a medical incident. He received immediate medical treatment on site by event staff and then by St Johns Ambulance officers, but very sadly passed away as a result of the medical incident.

“We are deeply shocked and thinking only of his family at this time. It will take time to grasp the huge loss to Aotearoa New Zealand. All we can do now is grieve,” says Josie Pagani.

The whole team at ChildFund and at Campbell+Co who organized the event are devastated and saddened at the loss of such an amazing man.

Our heart goes out to his wife, his children and family, his community, his colleagues at the Green Party.
