Why choose ChildFund? Five reasons why Kiwis love helping children and youth to thrive...

With more than 27,000 registered charities in New Zealand, it can be hard to decide which organisation you want to support.
It should come as no surprise, Kiwis are very generous people. But with more than 27,000 registered charities in New Zealand, it can be tricky to decide which organisation you wish to support.

Every day, new people choose to join ChildFund on our mission to help children and youth to thrive. We call these people ChildFund Champions... They come from all walks of life, and they have different values and opinions. Young people and not-so-young people from all across Aotearoa New Zealand are choosing to support ChildFund.

There are many reasons why people choose ChildFund New Zealand over some of the other worthy causes out there. Here are five of them...

1. ChildFund may be 80+ years old, but we still act like a startup.

We have a small and nimble team: We have a small team of creative and innovative professionals who are dedicated to coming up with high-quality solutions to our business challenges. We don't work in silos... we are all part of Team ChildFund, and we love it! That's why so many of our ChildFund Champions call us, send us messages on social media and even pop into our office for a coffee from time to time... it's a real community at ChildFund.

We're not too precious: We don't do things just for the sake of it, and we certainly don't mind critical feedback. That's why we're always asking ChildFund Champions to let us know what's working and what's not, so we can make changes quickly. Click here to give us feedback today!

We're not stuck doing things the way we've always done them: We focus on one thing: finding the best ways to help children and youth to thrive. Things are always changing in the world around us, and we know that we must change too. That's why we are always testing new ideas and new ways of working.

2. ChildFund Champions have flexibility in the way they support us.

It's not about the money, money, money: We've made it easy for people to help children, even if they don't have anything to donate. Through our partnership with Chooza.com, individuals and companies can upload items online, and donate the sale price to ChildFund. What a great way to show you care! ChildFund Champions can also contribute to helping children and youth to thrive by hosting a fundraiser on our behalf. Why not ask family to donate to ChildFund instead of giving you a birthday present this year?

We can receipt donations made in cryptocurrency: ChildFund is committed to innovation and discovering new ways for Kiwis to support our work. As the popularity of cryptocurrency continues to rise, we have prioritised these new opportunities, giving new generations of donors the chance to create long-lasting change for children and youth. Click here to donate in cryptocurrency.

We get in touch with every first-time donor, right away: It's important that we get to know you, your goals for giving and why you chose to support ChildFund with a donation. We do this because we want to make sure we are applying your support where you want it to go, and so that you have a touch-point if you ever need to reach us for more information, or to make a second donation to support our work.

You're never locked into your donations at ChildFund: Unlike some other monthly-giving programmes out there, all ChildFund Champions have the ability to change the amount they choose to donate. We know that times can be tough for some families, which is why we don't lock you into your set donation amount. Whether you want to donate more or less this month, simply give us a call, and we will give you the best options to suit your budget. You can even put your donations on pause... easy as!

Obsessed with results

3. ChildFund is obsessed with achieving - and sharing - our results!

Everything we do supports our self-reliance goal: At Childfund, we don't believe in staying in a community forever. In fact, we think the longer we stay, the more likely families are to become dependent on our support. To avoid this, we work closely with community members to develop a unique Road Map that helps them reach a point of self-reliance.

We have a strong impact measurement framework:  As the saying goes, "if you can't measure it, you can't manage it." At ChildFund, all of our programmes are designed with long-term results in mind. That's why we take extra time before we undertake any new projects in order to ensure we know what the objectives are, and understand how we can communicate them. We publish a summary of our results in our Annual Impact Report. Take a look at our recent reports here.

We always keep ChildFund Champions updated: We value the support of our donors. That's why we choose to keep donors updated about the impact of their donations through our weekly blog and our quarterly Thrive e-newsletter. If you subscribe, you'll get regular updates on our work to help children and youth to thrive in Kenya, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Kiribati. Subscribe today

4. ChildFund is accountable with your precious donations...

As members of Accountable Now, we're committed to ensuring we are transparent and effective with the donations we receive: Each year, we publish a report to inform the public about the ways we are improving year-over-year. This Accountability Report is audited by Accountable Now and is available for everyone to read. Click here to read our latest report

We're all about finding ways to save money: Over the past few years, ChildFund has undergone an innovative project to transform the way we operate and find ways to direct more of your donations to the communities where we work. We want our supporters to get the most possible impact: Did you know? There is a way that you can get 33 percent more impact from your donation. By joining Supergenerous, every donation you make can be amplified. With their no-fuss system, they claim your IRD charity tax rebate on your behalf and give you the option of donating it back to the charities you love most. We do our best to give back to our donors when we can: At ChildFund, we're members of the AA Smartfuel loyalty programme. Through this partnership, our donors are eligible for a 10 cents per litre discount for every $100 they donate at the ChildFund website! Click here for three good reasons why we've partnered up with AA Smartfuel.

5. ChildFund stays true to our values!

We believe in partnerships: We know it takes a community (and working with others) to create solutions that help children and youth to thrive. That's why we have established some incredible partners in the communities where we work, and here in Aotearoa New Zealand, focused on creating some amazing results for children.

We are high-performing: We strive for excellence in all that we do, and work as one team that is aligned and accountable: we do what we say we will do. Take a look at the impact we are achieving, here

We challenge our boundaries: We are curious and we learn, with an open mind to try bold new things that enhance outcomes for children and youth. Click here for our ongoing projects.

We do the right thing, not the easy thing: We focus on doing the right thing today, and for generations to come.  We have grit and courage in our approach to improving outcomes for children and youth. We advocate and act when things do not allow children and youth to thrive.
