Leinani should have been safe at home.
On a recent visit to Leinani's house, local ChildFund staff members observed her grandmother disciplining her with a heavy stick.
You're worthless! And so disrespectful!" Leinani's grandmother shouted, as the stick came down heavily onto the young girl's backside. Leinani yelled back, making her grandmother even more angry.
"When her grandmother picked up a big stone, I was so scared," explained Selima, ChildFund Kiribati staff member. "Maybe she noticed us watching but, thankfully, she dropped the stone and walked away."
With your help, we will reach the most vulnerable families in Kiribati.
The Impact of Covid-19
The stress of COVID-19 means household violence will rise in the Pacific.
COVID-19 not only threatens people's health, but it also drastically increases violence to vulnerable children and women around the world.
It is estimated that 3 out of 4 children in the Pacific experience a high rate of violence and abuse in their homes. With the added economic stresses of COVID-19, children are even more at risk.

Will you help?
