Rohingya Refugee Crisis Appeal Update

Work is underway now to help children, young people and families in Cox's Bazar.

Since January, compassionate Kiwis have given over $91,000 to help Rohingya children and families, living as refugees, to access education, life-saving devices, disaster preparedness, psychosocial counselling and child protection programmes.

  • ChildFund is working with government officials, local partners and other stakeholders to set up the  psychosocial counselling and child protection programme
  • Three refugee camps and ten schools have been selected for the programme
  • Youth and other community groups are forming to participate in the programme
  • Educational materials have been prepared for the programme

Background to the Rohingya refugee crisis

Four years ago at least one million fled their homes in Myanmar, literally running for their lives as armed gunmen chased them away and set their houses on fire. They fled to the Cox’s Bazar district in Bangladesh.

Alongside this destruction, upheaval and terror, many witnessed their loved ones being brutally murdered. With thanks to compassionate Kiwis, ChildFund has partnered with MFAT to help vulnerable vulnerable Rohingya refugees to access education, life-saving devices, disaster preparedness, psychosocial counselling and child protection programmes.
